António Costa has ruled out the same limit on rents as the one established last year for increases in 2023.
In an interview with CNN yesterday, the Prime Minister said that the solution will be “a balance between 2% (this year’s limit) and 6.94%” (the official inflation rate for rental increases next year).
A reminder that all renewable long-term rental contracts can be legally increased by the annual rent increase coefficient published by the Portuguese Statistics Institute (INE) every autumn. The coefficient is based on inflation rates between August and August every year, and is normally published in September or October by INE as the rate to be implemented the following year.
